Bulldogs to play against Decatur MacArthur in Regional final
By Fred Kroner
Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ basketball team put themselves in contention for a Class 3A regional championship on Tuesday (Feb. 13) with a come-from-behind win over Danville on the Vikings’ court.
M-S trailed, 14-13, after one quarter. The teams were tied 29-29, entering the fourth quarter.
Reese Gallier fired in a team-high 18 points and Kylie Waldinger seconded her with 12 points. Selah Campion added nine points.
In the decisive fourth quarter, Gallier scored seven points, Campion had five and Waldinger added four.
Sidney Young finished with four points after going 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Both Grace Binkley and Hannah Creel contributed two points.
Third-seeded M-S (13-19) returns to action on Thursday (Feb 15) at Danville against second-seeded Decatur MacArthur in the regional finals at 6 p.m.
The Bulldogs are working on a two-game winning streak, their second longest of the season.
MacArthur is coming off a 29-point win over a Rantoul team in the semifinals that M-S defeated by 31 points last week in its regular-season finale.
The Bulldogs are gunning for a third consecutive regional championship, which would be the first time the feat was accomplished in the history of the M-S girls’ basketball program.
