Bulldogs snap three-game losing streak with win over Monticello

Both the seventh-grade and eighth-grade girls’ basketball teams from Mahomet-Seymour Junior High snapped three-game losing streaks at home on Monday (Nov. 7), handing losses to previously unbeaten teams from Monticello.
The M-S eighth-graders (16-6) vaulted into an 18-10 halftime lead and went on to handle the visitors from Monticello, 33-19.
The Bulldogs secured the win by sinking 14 of 18 free throws.
Olivia Cox posted a season-high 11 points. She was part of a three-pronged offensive attack that also featured Breckyn Hess (10 points) and Hannah Martin (nine points).
On Saturday (Nov.5), unbeaten Paris Crestwood scored a 38-16 win at Mahomet over the M-S eighth-graders, which trailed 15-9 at halftime. Aubrey Meints tallied five points for the Bulldogs. Adding four points apiece were Addison Schulze and Breckyn Hess.
On Thursday (Nov. 3), the M-S eighth-graders suffered a 34-25 loss at home to Normal Kingsley. After one quarter, the Bulldogs trailed, 16-4, and could never draw closer than six points. Courtney Fonte made seven points while teammates Cox and Martin each contributed six points.

The M-S seventh-graders (14-8), led by Abi King’s four points, edged Monticello, 14-12, at home on Monday (Nov. 7).
On Saturday (Nov. 5), the seventh-graders were topped at home by undefeated Paris Crestwood, 34-13. M-S trailed at halftime, 11-7. King connected for four points while Penelope Bird netted three points.
On Thursday (Nov. 3), the Bulldog seventh-graders dropped a 31-22 decision to visiting Normal Kingsley. M-S was within a 13-12 margin at halftime. Kennedy Ashby hit a team-high eight points. King and Marly Cloward each added four points.
Both M-S squads have two games remaining in the regular season, playing at Champaign St. Matthew on Monday (Nov. 14) and then hosting St. Joseph on Thursday (Nov. 17).
