Bulldogs set school record for most wins in a season

In its final regular-season game, the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball team knocked off the state’s ninth-ranked Class 3A team and also broke the school record for wins in a season on Thursday (Feb. 10) in a 63-52 triumph at Lincoln.
Durbin Thomas and Savannah Orgeron matched their season’s best for three-pointers to spark the Bulldogs’ historic win.
Thomas notched four three-pointers, accounting for her 12 points. Orgeron nailed three three-point shots and totaled 13 points.
M-S was hot from the outset, blasting into a19-7 first-quarter lead. Cayla Koerner netted eight of her team-high 19 points in the opening quarter and Thomas bagged two of her three-pointers in the first eight minutes.
Ivie Juarez was the fourth M-S player to reach double figures, scoring 11 points.
Abigail Bunting pulled down a team-high five rebounds. Thomas captured four boards. Bunting and Koerner also ended with four steals.
The M-S lead ballooned to 38-22 at halftime.
When the two Apollo Conference teams played at Mahomet, the visiting Railsplitters (now 21-8) scored a nine-point win.
M-S (26-4) will carry an 11-game winning streak into the Class 3A playoffs. The Bulldogs return to action on Monday (Feb. 14) in the Normal West Regional against Rantoul in the semifinals.
