Jon Adkins returned to his old stomping grounds on Friday and enjoyed a happy homecoming in Charleston.

His first Mahomet-Seymour football team needed less than 5 minutes to reach the end zone and never trailed en route to a 20-12 triumph over the Trojans.

It was the second game in a row that M-S set a season-low for points allowed.

Two Bulldogs fired touchdown passes and quarterback Braden Finch eclipsed the 100-yard mark in both rushing and passing.

Nolan Nierenhausen opened the scoring in the Apollo Conference contest by connecting with Jack Koller at the 7-minute, 56-second mark of the opening period.

The first of two Carson Thomas placements lifted the Bulldogs into a 7-0 advantage.

M-S doubled its scored when Finch tossed 5 yards to Cole Hubble with 1:01 left in the first half.

Finch extended the M-S lead to 20-6 on a 47-yard scoring burst 11 seconds into the fourth period.

Finch rushed for a team-high 103 yards. He passed for 108 yards, hitting on 9 of 17 attempts.

Clay Hubble added 72 yards rushing on 26 carries, helping the Bulldogs to a 318-289 edge in total yards.

Cole Hubble and Koller each had three pass receptions, Hubble netting 63 yards and Koller 32. Finishing with one reception apiece were Mitchell Gallier and Zach Travis.

Thomas led the defensive effort with six tackles. Registering five stops apiece were Gage Granadino, Ashton Heiser and Hayden Nelson. Colton Morris had four tackles.

Skyler Yancy forced a late-game fumble, recovered by Travis, that ensured Charleston would not march in for a tying TD.

M-S (2-5) returns to action on Friday with a road game at Macomb (0-7). The once-beaten Bulldog freshmen will play at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity matchup at approximately 7:30 p.m.
