Bulldogs remain unbeaten in Apollo Conference

Travis Hoffman, Eli Stelle, Isaac Warren and Nolan Wheeler all tallied two goals on Thursday (Sept. 29) as the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ soccer team remained unbeaten in Apollo Conference matches with a 9-0 win at Middletown Field over Charleston.
The other Bulldog goal was notched by Mikiah Jones, who also collected two assists.
“Sophomore Travis Hoffman had a strong night for the Bulldogs with Charleston struggling to match his and the other strikers’ speed to goal,” M-S coach Jeremy Davis said.
Mitchell McAnally also contributed two assists. Adding one assist apiece were Sebastian Chamorro, Kolton Mannin, Carson Reed and Nick Tjahjadi.
M-S goalkeeper Zach Beyer picked up his 10th shutout of the season.
On Saturday (Oct. 1), Champaign Central dropped a 3-2 loss on the Bulldogs at Middletown Field.
After falling behind 2-0 less than 15 minutes into the non-conference match, M-S managed to take a 2-2 tie into halftime, thanks to a pair of goals by Wheeler. Assisting Wheeler were Nick Tjahjadi and Carson Reed.
Wheeler has a team-high 19 goals.
“The Bulldogs showed great resilience on the day,” Davis said. “On top of fighting back after being down, the Bulldog back line had to reorganize and take on some of the best attackers in the area with several guys giving huge minutes in new roles.
“Stepping in for a banged up-backline, Ian Dobrucki, Alex O’Brian and Brody Back all gave big minutes in the intense game.”
M-S (12-4-2) returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 4) at Mattoon. The Bulldogs are 7-0-1 in Apollo Conference action.
