Bulldogs place second at meet in Mount Zion

Distance runners and triple-jumper Meah Beacham were the headliners on Wednesday (March 1) as the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ track and field team placed second in a 14-school indoor meet at Mount Zion.
Beacham, a junior, won the triple jump with a leap of 32 feet, 6 inches.
Sophomore Chloe Bundren and junior Ava Boyd dominated the longest races.
Bundren placed first in the 3,200 meters (12 minutes, 45.13 seconds). Boyd won the 1,600 meters (5:25.42) and also captured third in the 800 meters (2:31.44).
Lauren Burr and Madalyn Marx were also placers in multiple individual events.
Burr placed third in the long jump (15-6), fourth in the 200 meters (27.72 seconds) and fifth in the 60 meters (8.34 seconds).
Marx ended second in the 200 meters (27.04 seconds) and fourth in the 60 meters (8.29, following an 8.28 clocking in the prelims).
Marx and Beacham were members of the fourth-place 800-meter relay (1:58.82). They were joined by Chloe Merkle and Kira Smith.
The Bulldogs had three other athletes secure placement among the top seven.
Kelsie Fuoss was sixth in the pole vault (8 feet, 8 inches), Karlie Fuoss was sixth in the long jump (14 feet, 5 inches) and Kendyl Petro was seventh in the shot put (27 feet, 10 inches).
Mount Zion won team honors in the meet (148 points). Runner-up M-S had 84 points and third-place Chatham Glenwood ended with 67 points.
M-S will return to action on Saturday (March 4) in the First to Finish Charger Indoor Invitational.
