The Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball team scored more than enough points in the first quarter on Wednesday (Dec. 22) to win a non-conference game at home against Rantoul.
The Bulldogs vaulted into a 29-4 lead after one quarter and blitzed the Eagles, 74-17.
Cayla Koerner (eight points), Ivie Juarez (seven points) and Chloe Pruitt (six points) led the first-quarter offensive assault.
Pruitt finished with a season-high 18 points. Koerner scored 16 points and Juarez wound up with 14. Savannah Orgeron chipped in with 13 points.
M-S sank 7-of-7 first-quarter free throws and 14-of-19 for the game.
Pruitt cleared a team-high six rebounds. Juarez grabbed four boards. Both Koerner and Abigail Bunting registered four steals.
M-S (12-1) bounced back from a loss in its previous game with one of its most decisive victories of the season. The Bulldogs return to action on Monday (Dec. 27) in the Mattoon Holiday Tournament.
