Bulldogs open postseason play with win over Urbana
The next junior high round-up will be posted on Nov. 30.

Mahomet-Seymour’s seventh-grade girls’ basketball team opened postseason play on Saturday (Nov. 19) at home and defeated Urbana, 31-19, in an IESA Class 3A regional semifinal game.
Marley Cloward scored a team-high eight points for the Bulldogs. Penelope Bird and Abi King each registered six points for M-S, which carried a 31-9 lead into the final quarter.
Top-seeded M-S (17-8) will put its five-game winning streak on the line on Tuesday (Nov. 22) in the 4:30 p.m. regional title game against Champaign Franklin, an opponent the Bulldogs beat in the season-opener on Sept. 13.
Franklin edged Jefferson, 28-27, in the other semifinal game on Saturday.
On Thursday (Nov. 17), the seventh-graders overpowered visiting St. Joseph 35-10 in their regular-season finale.
Lily Freiman scored a season-high nine points. Teammates Katie Hunter and King each netted six points.
M-S (16-8) led 23-5 at halftime, swishing 17 points in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs’ eighth-grade squad also closed the regular season with a win, 40-19 over St. Joseph.
Courtney Fonte drained 15 points, including two shots from three-point range. Breckyn Hess and Hannah Martin each tallied eight points.
M-S (18-6) led,16-2, after one quarter.
The Bulldog eighth-graders will also host an IESA Class 4A regional tournament. The second-seeded M-S squad drew No. 7 Rantoul Eater in a quarterfinal contest on Monday (Nov. 28) at 5:45. The Bulldogs, who beat Eater on Oct. 24, will be playing after enduring an 11-day layoff.
