Bulldogs open basketball season with win over Ottawa

Kylie Waldinger scored a team-high 16 points on Monday (Nov. 13) as the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball team opened the season with a 61-52 victory over Ottawa in the Bank of Pontiac Turkey Tip-Off Tournament at Prairie Central High School, in Fairbury.
The game marked the M-S coaching debut for Tom Garriott.
Waldinger was one of the Bulldogs’ three double-figure scorers. Reese Gallier drained three three-point shots and netted 13 points. Ellie Dallas added 10 points.
Five different M-S players nailed shots from beyond the three-point arc. In addition to Gallier, others to connect from long distance were Dallas (twice), Selah Campion (once), Hannah Creel (once) and Sidney Young (once).
Grace Binkley totaled six points for the Bulldogs. Teammates Creel and Young each added five points. Campion and Adaline Eisenmann both tallied three points.
On Tuesday (Nov. 14), the Bulldogs fell behind East Peoria early and took a 54-43 loss.
Dallas hit 3-of-3 free throws and led M-S with 12 points. Waldinger followed with 10 points.
Campion and Gallier each recorded five points. Creel tallied four points and Young netted three points. Finishing with two points apiece were Binkley and Kara Carney.
East Peoria held a 28-12 halftime cushion. M-S held an edge in scoring in the second half, 31-26.
M-S (1-1) returns to action on Thursday (Nov. 16) against Prairie Central.
