Bulldogs open basketball season with two tournament wins

The Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball team opened its season with back-to-back wins in the Prairie Central Hawk Tournament.
The Bulldogs dispatched East Peoria, 72-12, on Monday (Nov. 15) and overpowered Chillicothe IVC, 55-25, on Tuesday (Nov. 16).
Cayla Koerner tallied 15 first-quarter points in the opener and ended with a game-high 26 points. She nailed two three-point shots.
Ivie Juarez scored 12 points in her M-S debut. Savannah Orgeron contributed nine points, Chloe Pruitt had five points and Durbin Thomas also scored five points.
Nichole Taylor cleared a team-high six rebounds for the Bulldogs. Abby Bunting chipped in with five assists and four rebounds. Juarez had five steals and four rebounds.
M-S limited East Peoria to one first-half field goal.
Against IVC, Koerner and Orgeron formed a potent 1-2 punch. Koerner drained 17 points to go with 13 steals. Orgeron tallied 15 points.
Both players drilled three three-point shots.
Pruitt grabbed seven rebounds.
M-S (2-0) returns to action on Thursday (Nov. 18) against Prairie Central.
