Bulldogs on a five-game win streak

A balanced scoring attack enabled the Mahomet-Seymour eighth-grade girls’ basketball team to register their fifth straight victory on Tuesday (Oct. 17) at home against Clinton, 26-11.
Marley Cloward, Lily Freiman, Katie Hunter and Audra Martin all tallied five points. Penelope Bird totaled three points, Charlotte Sinclair had two points and Kennedy Ashby sank a free throw.
M-S trailed after one quarter, 6-5. The Bulldogs held Clinton scoreless in the fourth quarter.
Cloward scored 11 points on Monday (Oct. 16) at home as the eighth-grade girls’ team defeated Normal Chiddix, 25-19.
Ashby scored six points. Sinclair chipped in with four points. Adding two points apiece were Freiman and Hunter.
M-S led, 9-8, at halftime.
After Chiddix pulled within three points in the final 30 seconds, Cloward drained 3 of 4 free throws to secure the win.
The Bulldogs’ seventh-grade squad grabbed a 10-0 first-quarter lead on Tuesday (Oct. 17) and throttled Clinton, 22-14.
Emma Baker nailed a team-high seven points.
Also reaching the scoring column were Olivia Banister (six points), Cambria Clark (four points), Kennedy Lee (three points) and Phoebe Graham (two points).
The M-S seventh-graders also defeated Chiddix, 31-22.
Baker had the highest scoring game of any seventh-grader thus far this season, tossing in 14 points.
Baker notched 10 of her points in the opening quarter.
Lee added nine points, Clark tallied six points and Graham finished with two points.
The Bulldogs held Chiddix to seven second-half points.
Both M-S teams have 13-2 overall records and return to action on Saturday (Oct. 21) at Taylorville. Each Bulldog team will play twice. They will also face Teutopolis in the round robin event.
