Bulldogs on 4-game win streak headed into Regionals

Pitchers Jackson Bohm and Paxton O’Malley combined for a one-hitter for Mahomet-Seymour on Thursday (Sept. 9) as the Bulldogs ran past visiting Clinton 11-1 in a junior high baseball game.
Bohm struck out five batters in 4 1/3 innings.
Leading the hit parade for the Bulldogs were Pierce Douglas, Kyle Popovich and Jacob Sampson. They were each 2-for-3.
Popovich and Matthew Kirby both scored two runs. Collecting two RBI apiece were Nolan Franz, O’Malley and Logan Schmit.
In the junior varsity game, M-S decisioned Clinton 6-1. Pitchers Ethan Kempher (2 2/3 innings) and Nicolas Brauer (2 1/3 innings) each recorded four strikeouts. Cole Henderson scored two runs, and Douglas and Slayton Deck each belted triples.
On Monday (Sept. 13), the Bulldogs topped visiting Mattoon 13-3 in a six-inning game.
Bohm was 4-for-5, scored three runs and drove in two.
Max Young, Popovich and Henderson all drilled two hits. Franz socked one hit, but it was a home run. He knocked in two runs. Franz tallied two runs as did Henderson and Matthew Kirby.
Landyn Hannah had two RBI.
Kempher picked up the pitching win, striking out five batters in 2 innings. Deck fanned four batters in 2 1/3 innings and Brauer finished up, whiffing five in 1 2/3 innings.
Fifth-seeded M-S (9-3) has a four-game winning streak and returns to action in an IESA Class 3A regional quarterfinal game on Wednesday (Sept. 15) at fourth-seeded Normal Chiddix.
