Bulldogs move on to face Urbana in Regional Championship

Mahomet-Seymour’s eighth-grade girls’ basketball team needed overtime on Saturday (Nov. 18) to dispatch Champaign Edison, 34-28, in a semifinal game of the Mahomet Class 4A IESA regional tournament.
Audra Martin led the Bulldogs with a season-high 10 points. Katie Hunter and Penelope Bird each netted five points.
Marley Cloward and Charlotte Sinclair each totaled four points. Adding two points apiece were Kennedy Ashby, Faith Benedict and Lilly Meyer.
M-S led at halftime, 11-8, but the teams were tied entering the fourth quarter, 17-17, and after regulation, 26-26. Edison forced overtime on a banked-in three-pointer in the waning seconds.
Top-seeded M-S (17-8) faces sixth-seeded Urbana in the regional championship game on Wednesday (Nov. 22) at 4:30 p.m. in Mahomet. Urbana ousted both the No. 3 and No. 2 seeds to reach the finals.
When M-S and Urbana played in the regular season, the Bulldogs won by 10 points.
