Bulldogs finish in top 8 of IESA Class 4A

The magical postseason run made by the Mahomet-Seymour Junior High volleyball team came to an end on Friday (March 10) with a loss in the Class 4A IESA state quarterfinals at Normal Kingsley.
The Bulldogs dropped a 25-21, 25-22 decision to Channahon and finished as one of the top eight squads in the state.
M-S wound up with a 22-7 overall record after its 12-match winning streak was snapped.
Kiera Sternhagen amassed a team-high 14 service points in the Elite Eight matchup.
Emma DiFilippo and Ally Young each added three service points. Teammate Makenna Peterka had two points from the service line.
Channahon had a 20-5 overall season record and finished in second place in the 4A state tournament.

The scores of each set were the same in the Wednesday (March 8) eighth-grade IESA Class 4A regional volleyball championship match at Mahomet, but the Bulldogs incurred a season-ending loss to top-seeded Champaign Edison, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22.
M-S, the No. 2 seed in the regional, ends the year with a 16-11 overall record.
The Bulldogs’ roster consisted of Kate Barker, Emma Busch, Kenna Collins, Kaylee Guth, Breckyn Hess, Anniston Huff, Jaci Kellenberger, Hannah Martin, Maggie O’Donnell, Isabella Perez, Peyton Shelmadine, Emma Scott, Payson Steers, Callie Turner and Cora Ummel.
Edison lost to Rochester in a two-set sectional championship match.
