Bulldogs finish 14th in the State Farm Classic

Jackson Bohm scored 12 points, but the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ basketball team fell short on Friday (Dec. 29) against Dunlap, 66-41, in the 13th-place game in the large school division of the State Farm Classic tournament at Normal West High School.
Landyn Hannah registered seven points and Finn Randolph added six points on the strength of two three-pointers. Contributing four points apiece were Braden Pagel, Henry Wagner and Miles Woolsey. Gavin Bailey and Cade Starrick each made two points.
Dunlap forged a 15-5 lead after one quarter and led at halftime, 32-17.
In second-round action on Thursday (Dec. 28), M-S earned a split in games played at Normal West High School.
The Bulldogs were edged by Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin, 65-60, in a game they led at halftime, 30-25. M-S bounced back and topped North Chicago, 57-46, in a game it trailed at intermission, 22-21.
Against Sacred Heart-Griffin, Bohm registered a team-high 22 points. Lucas Dyer notched eight points.
Other Bulldogs to reach the scoring column were Wagner (eight points), Woolsey (seven points), Hannah (six points), Starrick (four points), Randolph (three points) and Pagel (two points).
Bohm also contributed four assists and four rebounds. Wagner handled three rebounds and Hannah also collected four assists.
Against North Chicago, Bohm led the way with a 13-point performance.
The balanced Bulldog scoring attack also featured 11 points from Wagner, 10 from Hannah, nine from Pagel and eight from Randolph. Dyer added four points while both Starrick and Woolsey recorded a point from the free throw line.
Dyer grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Bulldogs. Bohm and Wagner each cleared four rebounds. Dyer and Pagel both distributed two assists. Hannah and Randolph collected three steals apiece. Jake Rothlisberger blocked two shots.
In its tournament opener at Illinois Wesleyan University’s Shirk Center on Wednesday (Dec. 27), the Bulldogs faltered against Romeoville and lost a 62-43 decision in the large-school division.
Romeoville led, 18-8, after one quarter.
Bohm led M-S with 12 points and three rebounds.
Dyer and Starrick both deposited eight points. Pagel netted five points. Contributing three points apiece were Timothy Anderson, Bailey and Hannah. Woolsey registered two points and two steals.
The Bulldogs (7-8) return to action on Wednesday (Jan. 3) at Rantoul.
