Mahomet-Seymour was officially eliminated from playoff contention on Friday, dropping a 13-6 football decision at home to Lincoln.
This is the third time in the past five seasons that M-S has missed out on postseason competition.
Braden Finch’s 4-run scoring burst in the fourth quarter lifted the Bulldogs (1-5) into a 6-6 tie. But, the Railsplitters scored the tie-breaking points in the final 4 minutes to secure the win.
Finch has scored a team-high five of the Bulldogs’ touchdowns this season.
Lincoln led 6-0 at halftime.
M-S held an edge over the visitors in total offense, 227-225.
The team’s defensive effort against Lincoln was the best of the season, for fewest points allowed and for most tackles by a Bulldog. Junior Skyler Yancy recorded a team-high 12 stops, raising his team-high season-total to 36.
Other tackling leaders against the Railsplitters were Hayden Nelson (seven tackles), C.J. McKinney (four), Dallas Carnell (three) and Logan Petro (three).
For the year, Nelson (28 tackles), Colton Morris (25) and Carson Thomas (24) are the M-S leaders following Yancy.
Clay Hubble rushed for a team-high 74 yards on Friday. He also had two pass receptions for 32 yards and returned two kickoffs for 18 yards. For the season, Hubble’s all-purpose yards have reached 895.
Mitchell Gallier rushed for 45 yards against Lincoln and Finch gained 34 on the ground, giving the team 156 rushing yards on 40 carries.
Finch completed 8 of 17 passes for 71 yards. Zach Travis had three receptions and Jack Koller also had three catches.
M-S returns to action on Friday at coach Jon Adkins’ alma mater, Charleston High School. The Trojans have a 2-4 season record. During M-S’ current three-game losing streak the team has managed just one touchdown in each of the games.
