Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ basketball team did a total turnaround in overtime on Monday (Dec. 11) and salvaged a 47-43 overtime win at Tolono Unity.
During regulation, M-S connected on 3 of 13 free throws, including 1-for-10 in the second half and 0-for-6 in the fourth quarter.
However, the Bulldogs converted 8 of 10 free throws in overtime to account for all of the team’s points.
M-S and Unity were tied, 27-27, after three quarters and 39-39 after regulation.
Kylie Waldinger scored a game-high 18 points. In OT, she knocked down 5 of 6 free throws. Sidney Young finished with five points and made 3 of 4 free throws in the extra 4-minute session.
Reese Gallier just missed a double-double, recording nine points and nine rebounds. Gallier buried three three-point shots to account for all of her points.
Also reaching the scoring column for the Bulldogs were Hannah Creel (season-high eight points), Adaline Eisenmann (four points) and Selah Campion (three points).
Eisenmann and Young were late-game catalysts who helped M-S create overtime. On consecutive possessions, they pulled down defensive rebounds to prevent the Rockets from keeping the ball.
Creel netted two three-pointers and Campion made one.
M-S (4-6) returns to action on Friday (Dec. 15) at home against Taylorville.
