Bulldogs defeat Charleston at home

Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ basketball team knocked down 13 three-point shots and also connected on 14 of 15 free throws on Thursday (Dec. 7) and raced past Charleston, 67-23, at home.
The Bulldogs’ 67-point performance was their second-best offensive output of the season. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak.
Kylie Waldinger posted a game-high 17 points. Reese Gallier put in 13 points.
Three Bulldogs tallied eight points apiece: Selah Campion, Hannah Martin and Sidney Young.
Also reaching the scoring column for M-S were Adaline Eisenmann (six points), Hannah Creel (four points) and Courtney Fonte (three points).
Gallier and Waldinger each netted three three-point shots. Campion, Martin and Young nailed two three-pointers apiece and Fonte hit one.
Fonte and Martin are freshmen who notched their first varsity three-pointers.
Eisenmann was 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Campion, Gallier and Young also did not miss a free throw, combining to also go 6-for-6.
The Bulldogs sprinted into a 15-4 lead after one quarter and were on top, 33-8, at halftime.
On Saturday (Dec. 9), Gallier connected on 8 of 8 free throws and scored a team-high 16 points in the Bulldogs’ 49-31 loss at Effingham.
Gallier handled six rebounds and also made two three-pointers. The junior has made 13 consecutive free throws.
Waldinger added nine points. Young had four points and Eisenmann tallied the other two M-S points.
The Bulldogs were within a 17-15 deficit after one quarter, but made just two free throws in the second stanza and fell behind, 26-17, at halftime.
M-S (4-7) returns to action on Monday (Dec. 11) at Tolono Unity.
