Bulldogs comeback to defeat Normal University

Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ basketball team stormed back from a first-quarter deficit on Thursday (Jan. 18) and defeated visiting Normal University High, 51-47.

The win was the first at M-S for head coach Jessi Beachey Hurless, who took over the team in mid-January after previous coach Tom Garriott resigned.

U-High jumped into an 18-9 lead after one quarter.

Sidney Young scored 10 of her team-high 14 points in the fourth stanza as M-S completed its comeback. U-High led, 37-33, entering the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs drained four three-point shots in the last eight minutes, two by Young and one each by both Reese Gallier and Kylie Waldinger.

Adaline Eisenmann hit 13 points for M-S and Waldinger totaled nine points. Ellie Dallas and Gallier both notched six points. Grace Binkley tallied the other three Bulldog points.

For the game, Dallas, Gallier, Waldinger and Young all netted two shots from three-point range.

On Saturday (Jan. 20), the Bulldogs were outscored at home by Chatham Glenwood, 53-39.

Gallier drilled four three-point shots and led M-S with 18 points. Waldinger seconded her with 15 points. She bagged one three-pointer.

Also reaching the scoring column, with two points apiece, were Binkley, Dallas and Young.

Chatham led, 18-5, after one quarter and 37-12 at halftime. The Bulldogs outscored the visitors after intermission, 27-16.

M-S (10-14) returns to action on Monday (Jan. 22) at Mount Zion.
