Bulldogs capture team title at Tyler Cox Dual-Meet Memorial Tournament

Junior Mateo Casillas (195 pounds) and senior Jacob Dobbins (160 pounds) each went 5-0 on Saturday (Dec. 18) to help the state-ranked Mahomet-Seymour wrestling squad capture team honors in the Tyler Cox Dual-Meet Memorial Tournament at Chatham Glenwood.
Casillas had one pin for the day and raised his winning streak to 15 consecutive matches. Dobbins also registered one pin and extended his winning streak to 10 matches.
Brennan Houser, who competed at both 170 pounds and at 182, went 4-0 overall and posted two pins.
M-S grapplers who were 4-1 at Glenwood were Theo Ratliff (145 pounds) and Camden Harms (285 pounds). Ratliff ended with a team-best three pins for the day. Harms pinned two of his opponents.
Caden Hatton (106 pounds and 113) was 3-0, pinning two foes and picking up a forfeit win. Tallen Pawlak (138 pounds) was 3-2 for the day, collecting one pin.
Lukas Alstetter (106 pounds and 113) was 3-1 and Nicholas Demos (170 pounds) was 3-0. Their wins were all via forfeits.
Other M-S grapplers with marks in the win column for the day were Cayden Grove (2-2 at 126 pounds with one pin), Colton Crowley (2-2 at 220 pounds with two pins), Camden Heinold (1-1 at 120 pounds) and Stevie Pogue (1-2 at 182 pounds).
Overall, M-S wrestlers compiled a 40-21 cumulative record for the day, winning 15 bouts by pins and picking up 10 forfeit wins.
M-S, ranked eighth in Class 2A by the IWCOA, won dual meets from No. 17 in Class 1A Seneca (44-20), No. 5 in Class 1A Petersburg Porta (55-18), Rock Island (39-30), No. 9 in 2A Bloomington (42-30) and Tilghman, from Paducah, Ky., (28-27).
The Bulldogs are 17-3 in dual meets and return to action on Wednesday (Dec. 29) and Thursday (Dec. 30) at the Granite City Invitational.
