Bulldogs beat Urbana in overtime

Mahomet-Seymour’s eighth-grade boys’ basketball team endured a scoreless first quarter on Thursday (Dec. 8) at Urbana Middle School, but made up for it by holding the home team scoreless in overtime and salvaging a 28-20 victory.

Scoring two points apiece for M-S in the extra session were Eli Dyer, Parker Henry, Paxson O’Malley and Bryson Tiefenthaler. Dyer was 2-for-2 from the free throw line.

O’Malley tallied a team-high 18 points. Dyer added four points.

After the first period, M-S only trailed, 3-0. At halftime, the Bulldogs led, 9-7.

On Saturday (Dec. 10), M-S returned home and thumped Clinton, 45-9, after building a 20-4 lead after one quarter.

Tiefenthaler hit a season-high 12 points. Brayden Graddy seconded him with eight points. Dyer and Henry each contributed six points.

On Tuesday (Dec. 13), M-S snapped a 20-20 halftime deadlock with visiting St. Joseph and scored a 36-28 win.

O’Malley netted five of his game-high 17 points in the third-quarter surge.

Henry hit eight points, Tiefenthaler tossed in six points and Dyer contributed five and raised his consecutive streak to free throws made to nine by sinking both of his fourth-quarter tries.

The eighth-graders have a 10-4 record.

The M-S seventh-graders suffered their first loss at Urbana on Thursday (Dec. 8), dropping a 35-31 decision.

Luke Buh and Konner Fisher each collected nine points. Jackson Golden totaled six points.

The teams were tied, 27-27, entering the fourth quarter.

M-S returned to its winning ways on Saturday (Dec. 10), edging Clinton, 38-37.

The teams were tied, 27-27, after three quarters.

Buh and Golden each notched four points in the final period. Preston Clark had the other two fourth-quarter points.

Jackson hit a game-high 18 points and Buh finished with a season-high 10 points. Clark totaled five points.

On Tuesday (Dec. 13), M-S bounced St. Joseph, 46-15, behind a 16-point effort from Golden.

Buh scored 10 points. Recording four points apiece were Preston Branson and Jude McWilliams.

Clark scored two points from the free throw line and extended his streak for successive conversions to 15.

M-S led, 13-2, after one quarter.

The seventh-graders are 13-1.

The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday (Dec. 15) at Champaign Edison.
