Bulldog wrestling takes Mascoutah Invitational, boys basketball over Dunlap, Franklin captures double-double
Heavyweight champion David Griffet was one of eight Mahomet-Seymour wrestlers to place on Saturday, helping the state-ranked Bulldogs win team honors in the 30-school Mascoutah Invitational.
Griffet won in the finals by pin in 3 minutes, 44 seconds.
M-S, ranked sixth in Class 2A, accumulated 200 1/2 points. Runner-up Collinsville finished with 193 1/2 points.
Two teammates joined Griffet in the finals and finished as the runner-up in their weight classes. David Spencer (138 pounds) and Jack Vaughn (182) were each second.
Other team leaders included Ben Stahl (third at 220); Wyatt Heimann (fourth at 170); Lucas Morgan (fifth at 160); Kyle Johnson (sixth at 152) and Caleb Grove (eighth at 145).

Boys’ basketball
Grant Coleman and Cory Noe each hit the 20-point mark on Saturday as M-S earned a 64-52 non-conference victory at Dunlap.
Coleman tossed in a game-high 26 points. Noe ended with 20 points. Both players made four three-point shots.
The 8-2 Bulldogs received game-high totals of eight assists and seven rebounds from Noah Benedict, who chipped in with seven points.

Girls’ basketball
Amanda Franklin registered a double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds), but it wasn’t enough to lift the Bulldogs to a win at Lincoln on Saturday.
M-S (5-4 record) dropped a 51-48 decision in an Apollo Conference game.
Cassidi Collins scored 10 points and Keida Nichols had eight points.
Collectively, Franklin and Nichols teamed up to make 11 of 14 free throws.
