Bulldog wrestling competes in Montana

Mahomet-Seymour’s wrestling team fared well in a two-day tournament that ended on Saturday (Dec. 4) in Sidney, Mon.
On Friday (Dec. 3), the Bulldogs won three out of four dual meets to place fifth in the dual-team portion of the 26-team tournament. Schools from six states participated.
M-S decisioned Oak Harbor, Ohio, 35-29, Huntley Project, Mon., 45-30 and Glasgow, Mon., 44-15, and dropped a 32-27 decision to Dickinson, N.D.
Going undefeated in the dual-meet matches for the Bulldogs were Braeden Heinold (3-0 at 152 pounds), Brennan Houser (4-0 at 170 pounds), Mateo Casillas (4-0 at 205 pounds) and Colton Crowley (2-0 at 285 pounds).
The final day of the event was reserved for an individual tournament.
Houser and Casillas were the top M-S placers, each finishing third. Heinold and Crowley both wound up in fourth place.
Caden Hatton (113 pounds) took fifth and Gage Decker (132 pounds) ended in sixth place.
The Bulldogs finished sixth in the team standings based on the tournament segment of the event.
The team winner was Columbia, Idaho, with 198 ½ points. Following Columbia were Post Falls, Idaho, (176), Sidney, Mon., (172), Dickinson, N.D., (135), Huntley Project, Mon., (130 ½ ) and M-S (104 ½).
For all matches during the weekend, M-S’ cumulative record was 53-46, with 20 of the wins being secured by pins.
Nine of the 13 Bulldogs who made the trip to Montana collected at least one pin.
The top two-day records for M-S were a 9-1 mark by Houser, an 8-1 record by Casillas, a 7-2 record by Heinold and a 6-3 record by Hatton.
Decker and Tallen Pawlak (138 pounds) each produced four pins. Houser won four bouts by technical fall and three others by pin. Hatton also ended with three pins.
M-S (4-2) returns to action on Tuesday (Dec. 7) at Lincoln in a three-school meet that will also include Champaign Centennial.
