Bulldog Volleyball wins Centennial Tournament

Mahomet-Seymour Volleyball won four of its five matches – avenging its one loss – and earned the championship of Centennial’s tournament on Saturday.
In pool play, M-S opened with a 25-20, 25-19 triumph over Dunlap before falling to Kaneland 25-23, 16-25, 15-5. The Bulldogs then handled Monticello 25-20 25-23.
In the championship bracket semifinals, the Bulldogs defeated Rochester 25-16, 10-25, 15-9, securing a berth in the title match against Kaneland.
Three sets were again required with M-S (6-3) prevailing 21-25, 25-14, 16-14.
For the five tournament matches, Kayin Garner handed out 126 assists and served 12 aces.
Ainsley Ranstead was the offensive leader with 49 kills, followed by Lauren Minick with 32 kills.
Ellie Beach totaled 42 digs for the day. Minick ended with 36 digs.
On Thursday, M-S opened Apollo Conference play at home with a sweep over Lincoln, 25-16, 25-23.
Beach registered 11 digs. Amber Yeakel pounded six kills and Haylie Orton ended with four kills.
In the junior varsity match, M-S prevailed 25-19, 25-13.
M-S returns to action on Tuesday at Mattoon.
