Max Katz won the diving competition and Aron Varga was the runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke on Saturday (Jan. 8), leading the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ swimming team to a ninth-place finish in the 13-school Centennial Invitational.
Varga also placed fourth in the 200-yard individual medley. Katz was 16th in the 50-yard freestyle.
Other top individuals for the Bulldogs were Owen Kearns (eighth in the 500-yard freestyle and ninth in the 100-yard backstroke); Mitch McAnally (10th in the 100-yard freestyle), Carter Logsdon (14th in the 100-yard butterfly) and Mark Guttierez (14th in the 100-yard breaststroke).
The same four swimmers helped two M-S relays to eighth-place finishes. Kearns, Varga, McAnally and Logsdon were members of both the 200-yard medley unit as well as the 400-yard freestyle team.
Meet champion Waubonsie Valley totaled 456 points. Ninth-place M-S wound up with 132 points.
M-S returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 13) at Stanford Olympia in a meet that also includes Lincoln.
