Bulldog swimming finishes third at Urbana Invitational

Mahomet-Seymour’s boys’ swimming team produced top-five placers in 10 events on Saturday (Jan. 29) and captured a third-place finish in the eight-school Urbana Invitational.
The host Tigers won the meet with 436 points. Runner-up O’Fallon totaled 403 points. Third-place M-S ended with 341 points.
Bulldogs who were part of four top-five finishes (two individually and two with relays) were Owen Kearns, Mitch McAnally and Aron Varga.
Kearns was the runner-up individually in the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.85) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:29.70).
He joined Varga, McAnally and Carter Logsdon on the 200-yard medley relay, which placed second in 1:49.50.
Kearns was also a member of the fifth-place 400-yard freestyle relay, teaming up with Caden Raquel, Max Katz and Jerry Pryor for a time of 3:55.98.
McAnally took third in the 50-yard freestyle (23.44) and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (54.29).
His other relay appearance was with the third-place 200-yard freestyle unit, which was timed in 1:38.63. Joining McAnally were Varga, Katz and Logsdon.
Varga secured fourth-place finishes in two events: 100-yard freestyle (53.53) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.83).
Katz was the diving runner-up (388.60 points) while Logsdon placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:07.48) and sixth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.74).
Other Bulldogs with top-10 finishes individually in the eight-school meet were Raquel (sixth in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:35.83 and ninth in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:10.69); Mark Guttierez (fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:13.03) and Kam Bartels (10th in the 500-yard freestyle in 7:02.63).
The Bulldogs had a second entry in the 200-yard medley relay that performed well. The quartet of Katz, Guttierez, Raquel and Ethan Whittaker placed fifth in 1:55.45.
M-S returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 5) at the Stanford Olympia Invitational.
