Bulldog swimming continues to improve

Mahomet-Seymour freshman Talynn O’Donnell re-broke two more of her school records on Wednesday (Oct. 12) in a four-school girls’ swimming meet at Urbana.
She shattered the 200-yard individual medley for the third time this season, winning the event with a 2:17.96 mark.
In the 500-yard freestyle, O’Donnell knocked more than 4 ½ seconds off her previous school mark, clocking a 5:28.49.
Two teammates also won events in season-best times.
Eden Oelze captured the 100-yard butterfly in 1:04.61. Lainey Howard was triumphant in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:17.87.
Howard also won the 200-yard freestyle (2:13.93).
Four other season-best times were recorded, including a second one by Oelze, who was the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle (27.01 seconds).
Maddie Logsdon took second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:13.91), Reese Harrell ended fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:38.92) and Maddie Hobbs placed 11th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:26.23).
The times by Harrell and Hobbs were not only season-bests, but also lifetime bests.
The Bulldogs also secured wins in two relays.
The 200-yard freestyle relay (1:50.47) featured Oelze, Howard, Logsdon and O’Donnell.
Members of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay were Oelze Logsdon, Howard and O’Donnell. They stopped the clock in 4:04.14.
Logsdon also added a third-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:50.17).
Urbana scored 372 points to win the meet. Urbana Uni High (293 points) was second, followed by M-S (268) and St. Thomas More (214).
The Bulldogs had just eight of its swimmers available.
Seniors Oelze, Trinity Allen and Kaitlyn Stewart were all recognized.
M-S (7-7) returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 22) in the Urbana Uni High Invitational.
