Bulldog Swimming begins season strong

The Mahomet-Seymour girls’ swimming team opened its season on Thursday (Sept. 2) by finishing second in a three-school meet at Pontiac.
Washington amassed 146 points to win the triangular meet. M-S was second with 88 points and Pontiac (72 points) ended in third place.
Two Bulldogs were double winners. Senior Olivia McMurry was triumphant in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke. Junior Eden Oelze was victorious in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly.
Kate Raver contributed fourth-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle. Anna Lagacy ended fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Other M-S athletes securing two top-five performances were Kiera McCoy and Taylor Easter.
McCoy took fourth in the 500-yard freestyle and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke. Easter had matching fifth-place efforts in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.
On Saturday (Sept. 4), the Bulldogs were a strong second in a three-school meet at Charleston.
The host Trojans won with 233 points and were followed by M-S (176) and St. Thomas More (38).
Oelze was again a double winner, taking the top spot in the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard butterfly.
Also placing first was the 200-yard medley relay team of McMurry, Lagacy, Oelze and Raver.
McMurry was the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke.
Raver finished second in the 100-yard freestyle and third in the 200-yard freestyle.
Another M-S relay swam to a second-place finish: the 200-yard freestyle unit.
Lagacy took third in the 100-yard breaststroke and fifth in the 200-yard IM.
Easter collected a pair of fourth-place finishes in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle.
Maddy Logsdon was fourth in two events: 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard breaststroke.
McCoy ended with a fourth-place performance in the 200-yard freestyle and a fifth-place effort in the 100-yard backstroke.
Ana Iliff was fifth in the 500-yard freestyle.
M-S (2-2) returns to action on Thursday (Sept. 9) at Pontiac against Bloomington Central Catholic.
