Bulldog Softball wins doubleheader at Effingham
By FRED KRONER
Aubrie Shore hit a home run in each game and Karley Yergler picked up a win and a save as Mahomet-Seymour’s softball team swept an Apollo Conference twin bill on Tuesday (May 25) at Effingham.
M-S won the opener 5-3 and completed the sweep with a 12-11 triumph in a second game where it committed nine errors.
All of the first-game scoring came on home runs. Shore blasted a three-run shot in the third inning before Yergler snapped a 3-3 deadlock in the seventh inning with a two-run blast.
Yergler’s home run not only provided the decisive runs, but was her school-record 14th blast this season. The previous M-S single-season home run mark of 13 was set by Shore in 2018.
Yergler (9-5) pitched all seven innings in the opener. She allowed six hits, one walk and struck out 11.
In the second game, M-S built a 7-2 lead in the nightcap before Effingham rallied. Abigail Akers pitched four innings and recorded her first win of the season. She walked two and fanned one.
Yergler finished up, working two innings and recording five of her six outs via strikeouts.
The first three batters in the Bulldogs batting order all contributed three hits: Jadyn Hannah, Shore and Yergler. Shore scored four runs, had three RBI and stole two bases. Yergler knocked in two runs.
Jenna Wade delivered two hits. Chloe Truax scored two runs.
M-S (14-7) is scheduled to return to action on Thursday (May 27) at Normal University High.
