Bulldog soccer advances in Regional play

Mahomet-Seymour posted one of its highest-scoring outputs of the season on Tuesday (May 16), outscoring seventh-seeded Bloomington 4-1 in each half for an 8-2 regional semifinal victory in a girls’ Class 2A soccer tournament match at M-S’ Middletown Field.
Abby Bunting and Brielle Galvan each notched two goals for M-S.
Adding one score apiece were Hannah Creel, Ella Walk and Paislee Welge.
“In a dominant display of possession and offensive prowess, the Bulldogs powered their way to a convincing victory over Bloomington,” M-S coach Jeremy Davis said. “The Bulldogs commanded the game from start to finish, dictating the tempo and controlling the majority of possession. Their relentless attacking approach translated into a significant advantage in shots.”
Grace Binkley contributed two assists.
Teammates each chipping in with one assist were Bunting, Haley Reed, Kallie Stutsman, Janel Straub and Walk.
Typical of a season where 26 squad members have either scored a goal or notched an assist in a varsity match, the Bulldogs’ numerous contributors were illustrated in their postseason opener.
“The Bulldogs’ multifaceted attack showcased the team’s depth and skill,” Davis added. “Abby Bunting not only found the back of the net but also contributed an assist, highlighting her playmaking abilities. Brielle Galvan demonstrated her goal-scoring prowess with two goals, providing a constant threat to Bloomington’s defense, while Ella Walk had an assist and a goal.”
M-S hit a season-high nine goals in two matches this season. Tuesday’s eight-goal performance marked the third time for achieving that total.
In Saturday’s regional match at 4 p.m., second-seeded M-S (12-5-3) will face fifth-seeded Centennial, which upset third-seeded Lincoln, 3-2, on Wednesday (May 17).
The Bulldogs did not face Centennial in the regular season.
