Bulldog place fourth at Charleston Invitational

With an all-underclassman top seven, Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ cross-country team secured a fourth-place finish on Saturday (Sept. 3) at the 15-school Charleston Invitational.
M-S junior Ava Boyd was the individual runner-up, covering the 3-mile course in 19 minutes, 13.85 seconds. There were 148 finishers.
Teammates in the Bulldogs’ top seven were sophomore Chloe Bundren (14th in 21:22.44) freshman Hadley Grotelueschen (42nd in 22:44.20), sophomore Ava Jansen (45th in 23:01.21); junior Lauren Bednar (50th in 23:05.83); freshman Jinan Abdo (60th in 23:34.46) and sophomore Morgan Waisath (62nd in 23:41.48).
Three Apollo Conference schools secured finishes among the top four teams, including meet champion Mount Zion (43 points), runner-up Effingham (109 points) and the fourth-place Bulldogs (148).
In third-place was Shelbyville (123).
Eight other Bulldogs participated in the race.
They were: Camryn Nelson (70th in 24:18.66); McKenzie Hissong (83rd in 25:17.52); Grace Bednar (94th in 25:51.73); Isabelle Scheele (92nd in 26:01.18); Gabby Reeves (101st in 26:13.59); Phoebe Truax (102nd in 26:14.07); Hannah Hofbauer (123rd in 27:38.13) and Meg Turner (124th in 27:51.71).
Grace Bednar’s time was a personal-best for 3 miles.
M-S will return to action on Saturday (Sept. 10) in the First to Finish Invitational at Detweiller Park, in Peoria.
