Buffalo Trace Whiskey Hike to Benefit Forest Preserve Friends Foundation in October

Autumn leaves, crisp October air, and a smooth sip of whiskey will come together at the Whiskey Hike, hosted by the Champaign County Forest Preserve District on Sunday, October 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve.

The unique fall event invites participants on a scenic, guided hike through Buffalo Trace, a rich woodland area within the preserve, with curated whiskey tastings waiting along the trail.

Hosted by Watson’s Shack and Rail in partnership with the Forest Preserve Friends Foundation, the event will feature whiskey tastings from respected distillers, including Buffalo Trace, Bowman Bros, E.H. Taylor, Eagle Rare, and Blanton’s Bourbon. Guests will also have a rare opportunity to purchase a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 Year at a significantly discounted price.

Alongside premium whiskey tastings, the event will offer activities designed for both adults and children. Non-alcoholic beverages will be available, and Watson’s food truck will be on site to provide refreshments and food options.

Tickets, which must be purchased by Oct. 15, are required for entry and cost $55 for adults participating in tastings, which includes a wristband for alcohol service. Children may attend at no cost.

Tickets can be purchased here.
