Boyd wins Light It Up Meet in Clinton

Senior Ava Boyd was the top Mahomet-Seymour runner on Saturday night (Aug. 26) in the Light It Up Cross-Country Meet held at Clinton.
Boyd ran the 3-mile course in a personal-best 18 minutes, 35.95 seconds.
Two Bulldog freshmen placed among the top 25 in a non-scored meet that featured 112 participants.
Taylor Mills was 20th (20:26.48) and Jaci Kellenberger was 25th (21:05.72).
Other team leaders were Chloe Bundren (32nd in 21:19.28), Hadley Grotelueschen (41st in 22:07.65), Emma Frazier (48th in 22:39.81) and Morgan Waisath (58th in 23:09.72).
In the 74-runner open girls’ race, M-S freshman Zoey Wallace was the meet runner-up (22:08.81).
Three teammates also secured top 10 finishes.
Emmaline Culp was seventh (22:45.47), Ava Jansen was eighth (22:58.25) and Jinan Abdo was 10th (23:06.63).
Other Bulldog leaders were Emily Ramirez (11th in 23:17.71), Lauren Bednar (12th in 23:25.39). Camryn Nelson (23:54.26), Caroline Allen (20th in 24:02.91), Selma Tilton (21st in 24:05.56) and Meg Turner (34th in 26:02.09).
“In the future our varsity line-up – whoever it is – will benefit from the depth of our team as evidenced by the strong finishes in the open race,” M-S coach Jama Grotelueschen said.
M-S will return to action on Saturday (Sept. 2) at the Charleston Invitational.
