Boyd leads Mahomet-Seymour at Dunlap Invitational

Led by Ava Boyd – the meet’s top junior runner – Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ cross-country team garnered a fifth-place finish on Saturday (Sept. 24) in the 13-school Dunlap Invitational.
Overall, Boyd finished ninth with a time of 19 minutes, 29.60 seconds for a 2.95-mile course.
Dunlap was the meet champion, edging Washington, 45-47. M-S was fifth with a composite score of 133 points.
Other runners in the Bulldogs’ top five in the 133-runner race were Chloe Bundren (21st in 20:19.60), Hadley Grotelueschen (31st in 21:33.50), Callie Jansen (34th in 21:40.20) and Ava Jansen (50th in 22:31.30).
“The girls competed well and continue to show progress,” M-S coach Jama Grotelueschen said. “Our splits between our top five runners has narrowed significantly the last two weeks.”
Eleven other Bulldogs completed the course on a difficult terrain.
They were: Lauren Bednar (64th 23:26.60), Jinan Abdo (65th in 23:26.60), Emma Frazier (72nd in 23:59.30), Camryn Nelson (78th in 34:19.80), Emmaline Culp (80th in 24:24.10), Morgan Waisath (81st in 24:26.60), Grace Bednar (98th in 25:43.60), Phoebe Truax (99th in 25:48.20), Hannah Hofbauer (103rd in 26:10.50), Meg Turner (105th in 26:16.40) and McKenzie Hissong (108th in 26:30.90).
M-S returns to action Saturday (Oct. 8) at Metamora in the Runnin’ Reds Invitational.
