Bobbi Jo’s finds growth on Main Street
Bobbi Jo Wieber knew she wanted to become a hair stylist when her parents purchased a house with a beauty shop attached to it.
“That was my play area growing up,” Wieber said.
A Mahomet native, Wieber went to cosmetology school before interning at Rod Stickler’s salon in Champaign. She then brought all of her clients to Mahomet and worked out of the salon she grew up playing in.
Over the years, Wieber has established a local, full-service salon that offers cuts for all genders and ages, alongside color, permanents, iron sets, foiling, deep conditioning and PH bonding, among other services.
“I’ve always said I could never work behind a desk or in a cubicle,” Wieber said. “I love having something different everyday. And I love being able to transform a client from one (look) to something completely different.”
This fall, Wieber opened Bobbi Jo’s on Main at 404 E. Main Street. When Inspirations closed, Bobbi Jo’s on Main and Wicked Rascal renovated building located next to JT Walker’s Brewery.
When both businesses signed the lease, they did not know that a barber shop and a hair salon would work side-by-side.
“When I found out it was them, I thought, ‘That’s pretty awesome, it fits together perfectly. Between the two shops we can provide services for the whole family,’” Wieber said. “I talked to the (Wicked Rascal) owners when they were remodeling. We talked about how even though we are two different businesses, I wanted it to flow when people looked outside. I wanted (Bobbi Jo’s) to be the area that is more feminine, even though I also cut men’s hair, sleek and classy. I also wanted it to reflect the 1940’s, prohibition style Wicked Rascals has.”
Wieber said her clientele has already grown just from her new location. With clients from Mahomet, Mansfield, Farmer City and Monticello, being on Main Street is also a location everyone is familiar with.
“I love being on Main Street because living here, I can see how it has grown so much,” she said. “Especially with the mini mall coming in down the street, everything is transforming so quickly. I definitely wanted to jump on the opportunity to be in here.”
Bobbi Jo’s on Main is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 12-7. Appointment hours are also available on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
