Bah Humbug Productions presents “The Snow Queen and the Goblin” this weekend

20141211_201642Snow may not be on the ground in Central Illinois, but Bah Humbug Productions is ready to bring chill to the holiday season as they present “The Snow Queen and the Goblin” at Parkland College Theatre December 18, 19 and 20.

Based off the story by Hans Christian Andersen, Martha Bennett King brought the fairy tale into a dramatic fantasy where the Goblin schemes to be the only interest of the Snow Queen. The original tale is said to have inspired the recent Disney film, “Frozen.”

Bah Humbug Producers, Nick and Angela Schneider, have enjoyed working alongside Parkland Theatre since 2007. The couple, who are Mahomet residents, began Bah Humbug Productions from their love of community theatre.

The organization was formed to produce the Charles Dicken’s classic “A Christmas Carol,” in which Nick wrote an adaptation of the play. “A Christmas Carol” ran for three years at Parkland until Nick lost part of his crew, and then the couple decided to produce “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.”

Nick said he has enjoyed working with actors of all ages, backgrounds and talents over the years.

Prior to working in community theatre, Nick produced television shows and commercials. Although he loved the work, he missed his wife and children. Once Nick decided to change occupations, he worked to get a Ph.D. in geology, and the family moved to Central Illinois so Nick could work for the Illinois Geological Survey.

His wife Angela taught Performing Arts at Franklin Middle School. Their daughter also has a BFA in Theatre.

Bah Humbug Productions also performs “Bleacher Bums” at Mike and Molly’s Beer Garden in downtown Champaign. Nick said the group also plans to host “The Fantastics” in Parkland College’s new theatre next year.
