Ava Yeakel blasted 11 kills on Thursday (Oct. 31) as the Mahomet-Seymour volleyball team captured its first IHSA regional championship in five years with a 25-15, 25-13 win over Champaign Central on the Maroons’ court.
Erin Dallas provided the Bulldogs with 10 assists, two service aces and two digs.
The Bulldogs (34-3) play Taylorville – whom they defeated twice in the regular season – on Tuesday (Nov. 5) at Mahomet in a Class 3A sectional semifinal match. The 7 p.m. match will follow a 6 p.m. match between Normal University High and Chatham Glenwood.
M-S has won 14 consecutive matches and after beating Central, has earned 29 wins this season in straight sets.
The season win total (34) and the straight-set win total (29) are both school records.
The regional crown was the 11th in history for M-S, but just the third since 1996.
