Auggie Gaudio advances to IHSA state meet

Sophomore Auggie Gaudio will be Mahomet-Seymour’s lone representative at the IHSA Class 2A boys’ cross-country state meet.

Gaudio was the 11th-place finisher in the Saturday (Oct. 28) Jacksonville Sectional. He earned his advancement by being one of the top 10 individuals not on a team that qualified for state.

Gaudio’s time on a course that measured 2.9 miles was 14 minutes, 49.50 seconds.

Also moving on to state were the top seven team finishers. M-S placed 12th in the 18-school field with 265 points.

The other M-S sectional competitors were sophomore Henry McMurry (37th in 15:23.40), junior Lukas Nykaza (66th in 15:44.50), junior Kaleb Kasper (78th in 15:57.40), junior Zach Wilcoski (95th in 16:18.40), senior Lukas Carey (96th in 16:20.20) and senior Grant Smysor (121st in 17:02.20).

The sectional featured 138 participants.

Normal University High garnered team honors with 70 points. Other schools qualifying for state were Marion (78), Bethalto Civic Memorial (152), Mount Zion (156), Mount Vernon (162), Taylorville (185) and Mascoutah (203).

Gaudio will run at state on noon Saturday (No. 4) in the Class 2A boys’ race at Detweiller Park, in Peoria.
