Athlete of the Week: Karley Yergler
Mahomet-Seymour senior Karley Yergler will go down in the books as one of the Bulldog greats.
As the M-S softball team heads into tonight’s Sectional Championship game against Chatham Glenwood, Yergler probably isn’t thinking about everything she’s already accomplished in her career as a Bulldog, but those milestones have certainly caught the attention of the community.
In her first perfect game, Yergler recorded her 15th shutout of the 2022 season in the Bulldog’s sweet sixteen birth win over Springfield earlier this week. In 73 pitches, with 63 strikes, Yergler struck out 18 batters.
In the last five appearances, Yergler has not walked a batter, yet in the 11 times she’s approached the plate in postseason play, Yergler has been walked 8 times. The opponent’s decision is not without reason: Yergler holds the single-season school record for home runs with 14 in her junior and senior year.
Yergler is the first Mahomet-Seymour pitcher to record 20 wins in a season.
