Anand and Smith Lead Mahomet-Seymour Girls to Second Place at Lee Halberg Invitational

Emily Anand and Cecily Smith placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 56th Lee Halberg girls’ cross-country invitational on Saturday (Sept.14) at Springfield’s Lincoln Park.

Anand was timed in 19 minutes and 53 seconds on the 3-mile course. Smith finished in 20:09.

Rounding out the M-S varsity lineup were Chloe Bundren (17th in 21:12), Kennedy Ashby (20th in 21:34), Finley Smith (22nd in 21:41), Morgan Waisath (29th in 22:14) and Ava Jansen (39th in 23:23).

Rochester took team honors with a score of 36 points. M-S was second with 60 points. Normal Community (76 points) placed third.

In the junior varsity portion of the meet, M-S had 51 points and trailed meet champion Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin (39 points).

Emma Frazier ended in sixth place (23:13), followed by Jinan Abdo (23:19), Emmaline Culp (ninth in 23:44), Emily Ramirez (13th in 24:04), Ruby Anderson (18th in 24:52), Selma Tilton (22nd in 25:19), Caroline Allen (23rd in 25:19) and Blaire Gabel (27th in 26:11).

M-S returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 21) at the Richard Spring Peoria Notre Dame Invitational at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
