Amatyleon and Young become first from M-S to win a state match

Bulldogs Savannah Amatyleon and Emily Young bounced back from a first-round loss in the girls’ Class 1A state tennis tournament on Thursday (Oct. 20) to win their first match in the consolation bracket.
Juniors Amatyleon and Young decisioned Precious Windham and Kahliah Wright, from Hillcrest, 6-4, 6-0.
They are the first athletes from M-S to win a match at state in tennis. The school’s other qualifier (Sara Rice in singles in 2014) was 0-2 at state.
The M-S doubles duo dropped their state debut to Chatham Glenwood’s Amber Ehrlich & Simmi Mander, 6-0, 6-0. The Glenwood duo went on to finish fourth at state.
Amatyleon and Young were eliminated in the second round of consolation bracket play by Olney’s Claire Uhl and Evie Potter, 6-4, 6-0.
Overall, M-S finished in a tie for 51st at state with one point.
