Allen, Barker named to Apollo all-conference volleyball first team
By FRED KRONER
Mahomet-Seymour senior outside hitter Avery Allen was a repeat selection for the Apollo all-conference volleyball first team.
As a sophomore, Allen was a second-team pick.
Joining her on the first team was one other Bulldog: junior outside hitter Ellie Barker, a first-time all-league honoree.
In all, there were eight players chosen for the Apollo first team.
Mahomet-Seymour’s conference championship squad also had two of the six second-team selections.
Junior setter Ellie Dallas and sophomore middle-hitter Lily Bosworth were the other two Bulldogs to receive postseason recognition.
Allen, who led the 32-5 Bulldogs in kills (353) and digs (221), etched her name prominently in the school’s career record book.
She stands first all-time for kills (1,063) and service aces (171) as well as sixth for career digs (744).
As a senior, Allen recorded 52 aces, the team’s second-best total.
Barker had a team-high 62 service aces and was one of two squad members to play in all 80 of the team’s sets. Barker ranked second on the 2023 team in both kills (226) and digs (188).
Dallas also played in all 80 of the team’s sets and posted a team-best 459 assists. She also had 158 digs and 28 aces.
The 6-foot-3 Bosworth registered a team-high 80 blocks (which was more than the next two team leaders had combined). Bosworth also finished the season with 188 kills.
M-S was 9-1 in Apollo Conference play, the fourth consecutive year the Bulldogs claimed either the outright conference crown or shared the league championship.
In all this season, 15 different squad members had at least one kill, one block or one service ace.
