Growing up near downtown Mahomet and riding bikes through the historical part of town brings back a lot of memories for residents who grew up in town.
Kelsie Briggs is no different.
“I got my first haircut at Hairpin right down the street,” Briggs, who recently opened Salon 105 on Lincoln Street in downtown Mahomet.
And while Briggs was busy running around town or playing basketball, volleyball or soccer, she also really enjoyed doing people’s hair.
“I would braid everyone’s hair on the bus,” she said. “It’s just something I liked to do. “It’s really funny because ever since I can remember knowing what career I wanted to do, I wanted to do hair,”
Knowing their daughter’s passion and desire to own her own shop, Briggs’ parents purchased the vacant building on Lincoln and helped her renovate the space to suit the salon’s needs.
With the industrial look of exposed conduit and stylish accents, Briggs said the salon is comfortable for both men and women.
“I want to have a diverse group come into the salon,” she said. “Between the five chairs, we can serve ethnic, little kids or elderly. I want to have someone in here who can do that.”
Aside from the typical haircut, Salon 105 can also do waxing, foils, hombres and color.
And for Briggs, this is what she always wanted.
“There’s nothing to not love,” she said. “You get to make people feel good. You make people look good. When people leave, they hold their head a little higher, they have confidence.”
