The Champaign County Forest Preserve is gearing up for a morning of outdoor adventure as the Champaign County Forest Preserve District hosts its annual “Take Me Fishing 2025” event at Homer Lake Forest Preserve. The event is scheduled for June 28 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Walnut Hill Shelter.
“Take Me Fishing 2025” is designed to encourage families and beginners to experience the joys of fishing in a supportive, educational setting. Basic fishing instruction will be available for newcomers, and cane poles and bait will be provided for those who don’t have their own gear. The event is catch-and-release, ensuring a fun and sustainable experience for everyone.
Children ages 15 and under can look forward to the chance to win awards and prizes, adding an extra layer of excitement to their first fishing adventures. All children must be accompanied by an adult, making this a true family outing.
The event is free and open to all ages, but anglers 16 and over must possess a valid Illinois fishing license to participate. Licenses are not required for those under 16, blind or disabled anglers, or residents on active military service.
Organizers encourage participants to bring their own fishing equipment if they have it, but loaner gear will be available.
