The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) is once again stepping up to address summer nutrition needs by hosting the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), beginning Friday, July 25, and running through Monday, August 11. This essential initiative provides free breakfast and lunch to children aged one to 18 during the summer, a period when many area school districts do not offer meal programs.
Meals will be served on a first-come, first-served basis in the CUPHD lobby at 201 West Kenyon Road, Champaign, Monday through Friday. Breakfast is available from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and lunch is served from 12:45 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. All meals must be eaten on-site, and no registration or sign-up is required, ensuring accessibility for all families in need.
The SFSP is sponsored by the Illinois State Board of Education and is designed to ensure that children continue to receive nutritious meals even when school is out of session
CUPHD Administrator Julie Pryde said, “Champaign-Urbana Public Health District is proud to serve as a site for the Summer Food Service Program. This year marks our 16th year as a site for this very important service. We encourage families with children to take advantage of this program and use our building to avoid summer’s heat. In addition to the breakfast and lunch, we also have free books, free Wi-Fi, cold air conditioning, and Disney+ on the lobby TV.”
