Mahomet Public Library to host “I Spy” Walk and Family Festival

The Mahomet Public Library is gearing up for a vibrant start to summer with the annual “I Spy” Summer at the Library event, set for Saturday, May 24, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Hosted by the Rotary Club of Mahomet and the Friends of the Mahomet Public Library, this family-friendly celebration promises a day packed with adventure and fun.

The festivities begin with the “I Spy” themed walk, starting at Barber Park and winding along a stroller-friendly 1.3-mile bike path to the Mahomet Public Library. Along the route, participants of all ages can engage in a lively scavenger hunt, searching for an array of whimsical items-including dragons, hats, and fish-hidden in grassy areas near the trail. At four special stops, children can collect stickers from red buckets; those who complete the set will receive a free book at the finish line, while adults earn a complimentary coupon for the library’s Keurig station.

To ensure everyone can join the fun, a free shuttle service will run from the library to Barber Park between 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Organizers encourage attendees to park at the library and take advantage of the shuttle to the starting point.

The celebration doesn’t end with the walk. At the library, families will find a festival atmosphere with inflatables, carnival games, face painting, temporary tattoos, and music. The event also marks the kickoff for the library’s summer reading program, inviting children and adults alike to sign up and dive into a season of books and learning.

To fuel the fun, free hot dogs and chips will be served starting at 11:00 a.m., while supplies last. For those craving something sweet, Ice Daddy’s shaved ice will be available for purchase, adding a refreshing treat to the day’s festivities.

Proceeds from the event will benefit local programs through the Rotary Club of Mahomet and the Friends of the Mahomet Public Library.
