Mahomet Family Dentistry Athlete of the Week: Lucas Dyer
In his final high school football season, senior quarterback Lucas Dyer of Mahomet-Seymour made a lasting impact on and off the field.
Dyer’s season was marked by multiple record-breaking performances. Most notably, in the season opener against Morton, he threw for 593 yards and eight touchdowns, both setting new school records. His precision and decision-making were on full display as he completed 26 of 33 passes, leading the Bulldogs to a 69-37 victory in a game that highlighted his exceptional arm strength and football intelligence. The performance placed Dyer among the top five in Illinois High School Association (IHSA) single-game records for passing yards and touchdown passes.
Over the course of the season, Dyer’s consistency was unmatched. He finished the year with 2,677 passing yards and 30 touchdown passes, ranking him second on the Mahomet-Seymour all-time career list. His ability to read defenses and make quick decisions helped the Bulldogs achieve a 7-3 overall record.
Dyer’s leadership was exemplified in the team’s first-round playoff game against Sacred Heart-Griffin. Despite facing a fourth-quarter deficit, Dyer orchestrated a thrilling comeback with a 48-yard touchdown pass to Mason Orton, giving M-S a brief 21-17 lead. Though the Bulldogs ultimately fell 24-21, Dyer completed 22 passes for 291 yards.
Throughout the season, Dyer had eight games with over 200 passing yards.
