Unbeaten Mahomet-Seymour Girls’ Tennis Dominates Champaign Central and Pontiac in Back-to-Back Wins

Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ tennis team started the week with convincing wins over Champaign Central and Pontiac on consecutive nights to remain unbeaten in dual meets.

The Bulldogs handed Central an 8-1 loss in Champaign on Monday (Sept. 16) and overpowered Pontiac 7-2 on Tuesday (Sept. 17) in Pontiac.

Against Pontiac, all seven M-S wins in singles or doubles were achieved in two-set sweeps.

The M-S singles’ winners were Holland Martin (6-3, 6-2 at No. 2), Elana Religioso (6-0, 6-1 at No. 3), Haley Reed (6-0, 6-2 at No. 4), Ashley Shoaf (6-0, 6-1 at No. 5) and Emmie Flores (6-3, 6-1 at No. 6).

In doubles, Eliza Agate and Charlotte Mercer scored a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 2.

A No. 3, the duo of Lindsay Gowler and Courtney Gowler captured a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 win.

Against Central, Martin (6-3, 6-1 at No. 2) and Shoaf (6-0, 6-1 at No. 6) finished their singles opponents off with two-set sweeps.

The Bulldogs’ other three singles winners needed three sets to emerge victorious: Religioso (5-7, 6-4, 10-5 at No. 3); Mercer (6-2, 4-6, 10-4 at No. 4) and Agate (6-7, 6-2, 10-4 at No. 5).

M-S swept the doubles matches against the Maroons.

Adella Bird and Holland rallied for a 2-6, 7-6,10-8 in at No.1.

At No. 2, Haley Reed and Religioso registered a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

At No. 3, Shoaf and Lindsay Gowler were dominant, 6-1, 6-2.

M-S (9-0) returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 24) at Watseka.
