Champaign-Urbana Elks to Host Free Children’s Orthopedic Clinic
The Champaign-Urbana Elks Lodge 2497, in collaboration with the Illinois Elks Children’s Care Corporation, will sponsor a free children’s orthopedic assessment clinic on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. The clinic, led by Dr. James McKechnie, will take place from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois Multi-Specialty Clinic, OSF HealthCare Heart of Mary Medical Center, located at 1405 West Park Street, Suite 306, Urbana.
How to Schedule an Appointment
Appointments for the clinic are required and can be made by calling the Illinois Elks Children’s Care office at 1-800-272-0074, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. There are no charges for any services provided at this clinic.
Who Should Attend
The clinic is an excellent opportunity for parents to have their children assessed for bone and joint development issues. It is particularly beneficial for children who exhibit symptoms such as inward or outward pointing feet, back, knee, leg, or ankle pain, or any curvature of the back.
Referrals and Participation
No medical referral is necessary to attend the clinic. However, physicians and school nurses are welcome to refer children to the clinic for a specific reason or a second opinion.
History of the Elks’ Commitment
Since 1928, the Elks Organization has been dedicated to supporting physically challenged children. The orthopedic clinic in Champaign-Urbana is one of 15 such clinics throughout Illinois. Over the years, the Elks have provided financial assistance for children requiring further treatment or specialized equipment when families cannot afford the necessary resources.
Services Provided
The Elks have historically supported the purchase of therapy services, corrective shoes, braces, wheelchairs, and augmentative communication devices to assist children in overcoming various physical challenges. This commitment to aiding children with orthopedic needs highlights the Elks’ ongoing dedication to community health and wellbeing.
