Mahomet-Seymour Girls’ Track Shines in Champaign County Invitational with 1,600m Relay Victory

Mahomet-Seymour won the 1,600-meter relay on Saturday (March 30) at Urbana in the Champaign County girls’ track and field invitational.

The meet served as the outdoor opener for the Bulldogs.

Sparking the 1,600-meter relay were Kara Carney, Lauren Burr, Evelyn Hillard and Madalyn Marx. They stopped the clock in 4:04.93 and had a margin of victory of 7.70 seconds.

M-S also had the No. 4 1,600-meter relay in the 10-school event.

Sharing the baton were Chloe Bundren, Emma Frazier, Morgan Waisath and Jaci Kellenberger. Their combined time was 4:41.10.

Individually, Bulldog Kelsie Fuoss ended in a three-way tie for top honors in the pole vault (10 feet, 5 inches).

Other M-S athletes who secured top-three finishes individually were Emily Anand (second in the 3,200 meters in 12:17.82), Burr (second in the long jump at 16 feet), Carney (second in the 300-meter hurdles in 48.56), Anniston Huff (third in the 800 meters in 2:33.91) and Hannah Martin (third in the high jump at 4 feet, 7 inches).

Anand, Burr, Carney, Fuoss, Huff and Martin all achieved personal-best times or distances.

Other team leaders for the Bulldogs were Bundren (fourth in the 3,200 meters in 13:32.97), Petra Milinkovic (fourth in the long jump at 14 feet, 8 inches), Martin (fifth in the triple jump at 30 feet, 8 inches), Cora Ummel (fifth in the 800 meters in 2:35.56), Burr (sixth in the 100 meters in 13.02 seconds), Carney (sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.69), Ayla Finfrock (sixth in the triple jump at 28 feet, 2 inches) and Frazier (sixth in the 800 meters in 2:35.60).

M-S had 11 other performances that wound up among the top 10 in at least one individual event, including two from Adelyn Boyd. She was seventh in both hurdles races, clocking a 18.94-second time in the 100-meter event and a 56.62 mark in the 300-meter event.

The others were: Carney (tied for seventh in the long jump at 14 feet, 5 inches), Alyssa Gray (tied for seventh in the long jump at 14 feet, 5 inches), Kellenberger (seventh in the triple jump at 27 feet, 6 inches), Waisath (seventh in the 800 meters in 2:37.25), Huff (eighth in the 200 meters in 27.82 seconds), Lydia Risser (eighth in the triple jump at 27 feet, 3 inches), Schifo (tied for eighth in the pole vault at 6 feet), Katherine Simmons (eighth in the 800 meters in 2:37.76), Claire Johnson (ninth  in the triple jump at 27 feet, 1 inch) and Kyndl Zehr (ninth in the shot put at 25 feet, 3 inches).

The Bulldogs had three relays, besides the championship 1,600-meter unit, that also excelled.

The 800-meter grouping of Marx, Finfrock, Hillard and Martin placed third in 1:48.86.

Taking sixth were the school’s 400-meter relay and a second 800-meter grouping.

The 400 relay of Johnson, Schifo, Boyd and Ava Kersh was sixth in 55.24 seconds.

Also ending sixth was the 800 unit of Isabelle Scheele, Kira Smith, Risser and Schifo. Their combined time was 1:59.98.

There were no scores tabulated in the Champaign County Meet.

M-S returns to action on Monday (April 8) in the school’s lone home meet at Moose Handlin Track, against Monticello.
